Whole Wheat Date Almond Scones with Allspice Glaze

Ingredients

For the Scones:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter cut into pieces
  • 1 cup milk I used 1%
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup chopped raw almonds

For theĀ Allspice Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon allspice powder

Instructions

Make the Scones:

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  3. Pulse the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a food processor until combined.
  4. Add the butter piece. Pulse until the mixture becomes a crumb consistency.
  5. Pulse in the milk and vanilla until the dough is thoroughly wet.
  6. Pulse in the dates and almonds.
  7. Pat out into a circle on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Cut the circle into 8 pieces (or use a cutter to make circles or other shapes)
  9. Place on the baking sheet and brush with cream.
  10. Bake for 15 minutes or until the scones turn lightly brown.
  11. Transfer to a wire rack positioned over the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  12. Let cool completely.

Glaze the Scones:

  1. Whisk all the allspice glaze ingredients together.
  2. Pour over cooled scones.
  3. Wait until the glaze hardens before serving.
