Bread, Cheese & Wine Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 small-medium sized loaf of bread or baguette cut into small pieces.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups Leftover cheese. I used Brie. cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • freshly ground pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Grease an 8" x 10" casserole dish.

  3. Line the dish with the bread pieces and set aside.
  4. Heat the butter in a skillet. when the butter is bubbling, quickly Stir in the flour, thickening the mixture. 

  5. Add the wine and the milk to the pan and bring to a boil.
  6. Stir in the brie. Season with freshly ground pepper and ground nutmeg.
  7. When the brie has melted. Remove from heat and pour over the bread in the prepared pan.
  8. Scatter the shredded Swiss cheese over the top.
  9. Place in oven and bake for 20 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  10. Remove from oven, let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
