Here’s a spicy twist on traditional German Obatzda. This White Horseradish Obatzda Spread has as much flavor as the original. However, it contains a spicy kick for you heat lovers out there. Obadzda is so simple to throw together. Additionally, it helps use up all those bits and bobs of leftover cheese.
Jump to RecipeTraditional Obatzda is a perfect Biergarten food. Imagine chilling in a beer tent at Oktoberfest or soaking up the last of fall’s beautiful weather. Serve with pretzels, black bread, a side of radish, and beer is perfect.
This White Horseradish Obatzda Spread is also a cinch to throw together. Conventional recipes contain caraway seeds. So feel free to throw a few into this recipe as well. However, the horseradish is pretty strong. Consequently, reduce the amount of horseradish in this recipe if you want to add caraway seeds.
Firstly, slice the cheese into pieces and mash it with a fork. Secondly, beat the butter until creamy. Thirdly, add the rest of the ingredients. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. The White Horseradish Obatzda Spread recipe is done. However, be sure to chill the mixture for 30 minutes. This gives the flavors a bit of time to work together. Additionally, it makes it easier to scoop it out onto a plate.
Much to the distress of Bavarians, I love to experiment with the basic recipe. Adding different flavors using other spices, herbs, and cheeses is easy and fun. Once you have the basic recipe down, create your own variations. Use brie and fresh basil. thyme or oregano. Season with cumin or garlic. Change up the flavor of beer you add to the spread. There are so many great possibilities.
