Full disclosure: I was a guest of the Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa participating in a press trip. My airfare, room, food, beverages and activities were all courtesy of the hotel. However, the views and opinions expressed in this post are purely and entirely my own.
19 years ago, I had one unforgettable trip to the Caribbean island of Grand Cayman. and have just recently returned. My oh my, how almost two decades have changed the face of what used to be a mostly diver’s only paradise that is Grand Cayman.
Most people who read this blog already know I am a passionate scuba junkie. I brought my gear along on this trip, planning to sneak in some dives and was even encouraged to do so by our hosts. There were so many other fun activities to explore, I didn’t get the chance. Shame on me. Someone needs to take away my C card. However, I don’t regret a minute.

Nowadays in Grand Cayman, scuba enthusiasts rub shoulders with foodies, couples about to tie the knot and a new breed of tourists looking for a destination fun for families and singles. This is the first in a series of posts about Grand Cayman, because there’s lots to show and tell above water, not just below.

One of the most famous highlights of Grand Cayman is Seven Mile Beach, a beautiful stretch of sand along the island. Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa is located on one of the loveliest sections of the beach. What I loved most about the place is it had the look and feel of a boutique hotel but in reality, was rather large and offered everything from ballrooms to banquets as well as a world-class spa.
The following are all activities you can book at the Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa. Named to Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List, the resort has been recognized for its excellence.
All water sports activities are handled by Red Sail Sports, in business for almost 30 years in the Cayman Islands. Also offering scuba diving, sailing, wind surfing, kayaking, wake boarding and different tours, Red Sail Sports operates from six locations on Grand Cayman, including on-site at the hotel.
Based on our whirlwind four-day itinerary (we packed a lot of stuff in), here are:
This cabana became home base for our little group of journalists where we worked, sunbathed, ate, drank, social media-ed and bonded. From here you can comfortably order food, drink whatever you like or just drink in the beautiful ocean view.
Smiling, friendly servers assigned to your cabana will make sure you are never hungry or thirsty. And there’s also the people watching factor. A big plus.
Of course, there are the physical benefits of this core building sport but the reality is it’s just fun to be on a paddleboard in the middle of warm, clear, gorgeous Caribbean waters. Who cares if you fall off?

The clinic is comprehensive with a lot of individual attention. An expert speeds between participants on a wave runner to encourage and instruct. They also tow you in if you drift too far out and help you get back on the board if you have a spill.
The hotel has the benefit of having the Governor’s mansion right next door with it’s very own reef in front. Security does not allow boats in front of the establishment, Consequently, guests have access to the reef for swimming and snorkeling.

The abundant residents of colorful fish are overly friendly because the tourists feed them. They come very close providing a great opportunity to get some pictures of sea life. Don’t forget your waterproof camera.
Don’t let the ribs and hot dogs fool you, the buffet is covered with beautifully prepared side dishes and desserts worthy of an elegant restaurant.

This is the best and most fun way to hit several snorkeling spots in the span of a few hours. Grab your snorkeling gear and hop aboard your own wave runner.

Follow your guide to the first snorkeling spot, don your gear, slide off (the guide ties the wave runners together to a buoy) explore the reef, hop aboard again and drive to the next location. Rinse & repeat. A great combination of speedy pleasure and tranquil underwater observation.
The Hibiscus Spa located at the hotel is a world-class large facility. A peaceful, relaxing oasis that offers everything from salt scrubs to after sun facials to Island foot Treatments. They also offer outdoor services in their lovely hut on the beach.
An Organic Aromatherapy Massage was just perfect after a long day of water sports. You’re in excellent care with their highly skilled staff.
One evening we were lucky enough to witness a beautiful Grand Cayman beach wedding at the hotel. The attendees and the decor were both dressed in red and white. As we watched the ceremony and the celebration, we were fortunate to also sample delicious appetizers off the Wedding’s menu.
An ideal location that is intimate and romantic. Yet with 343 guest rooms, the hotel can accommodate 100 or more of your closest friends.
