I finally had a chance to stop by Momofuku Milk Bar in the East Village. I did so on my way home from a jaunt out to Baked in Brooklyn. Can you say “sugar coma”? I was already on sweet overload but I just had to see what all the fuss was over cereal milk soft serve ice cream. I just had to.
That was my intention. But then I got there…
and ordered the soft serve sampler. Oh yes I did. The other flavors were French toast, Banana and Chocolate Hazelnut. The $9 sampler came with two toppings, a sugary cereal and candied pecans.
To be honest I was nonplussed by the cereal milk flavor. The banana and the french toast were good but my favorite was the chocolate hazelnut. This is strange because neither chocolate or hazelnut are on my flavor hit parade. Whatevers.
I was about to leave when I heard someone calling my name. I turned around and it seemed to be coming from the trays of truffles in the display case
So I answered the call, went back up to the counter and bought the Birthday Cake and Pretzel versions.
The much ballyhooed birthday cake truffle is incredible.
I don’t even know how to describe the flavor but everything about it is just so right, flavor, texture, temperature, everything.
The pretzel ones were good but a bit too salty IMHO.
I definitely will return and try the famous compost cookie. Also next time I will order the cereal milk milkshake. I read somewhere the flavor is better than the soft serve.
Sorry about the quality of the pictures. Darkness was descending and the lighting was dim.

I'm not a huge icecream fan but those little balls do look delicious and cute.
I hate chatty food. Most of it seems to live in my refrigerator. I'm really hoping I can make it to New York this year, mainly to check out the Milk Bar and Baked, plus all the other places which have opened since I was last there.
