I found these sitting on a grocery store shelf just calling my name.
I was momentarily distracted by their cute little pumpkin shapes.
But I knew they were destined to be turned into fondant. So here’s what I did:
I poured the entire bag into a microwave-safe bowl greased with Crisco and added two tablespoons of water.
The bowl went into the microwave for 30 seconds. I took out the bowl and stirred the marshmallows with a wooden spoon greased with Crisco. Then it went back into the microwave for another 30 seconds and the mixture was stirred again until all the marshmallows were melted.
I added about 1 pound of powdered sugar one cup at a time, stirring to combine.
After adding about half of the powdered sugar, I turned out the fondant onto a work surface greased with Crisco and worked the rest of the sugar into the fondant until it was no longer sticky. Of course, it was at this exact point in the process when my hands were covered with the sticky mixture I remembered another blogger’s fondant post where she smartly used her stand mixer with the dough hook for this part.
After the fondant was smooth I wrapped it in plastic cling film and stored it in a ziplock bag.
The fondant has a great taste and a lovely color. However, it can be tinted easily by kneading in whatever gel food coloring you like. I am not sure exactly what I will use it for but there are so many things you can do with this season version including cupcake toppers and cookie decorating.
