Jumbo Stained Glass Cookies and a Giveaway

by Lora Wiley-Lennartz
I got big cutters and I cannot lie. Found these several weeks ago. The tree is 7+1/2′ x 7′ and the ornament is 8″ x 6″. I had never made stained glass cookies before so I turned to the interwebs to find a recipe and instructions.  This one at babble.com was perfect. The cookies are very tasty and there was little spread when baking.
The only change I made was I divided the dough and colored it. These are really simple to make, even with this extra step.
The recipe said to use Jolly ranchers but others I read said to use Life Savers to fill the cutouts. I bought both and crushed them with a stone motar and pestle.

So I had lots of pretty colors to work with.

After cutting out the cookies, I filled the open spaces.

With the leftover dough I made a tie dyed version.

And now the givaway –  I have an extra set of these fabulous cutters and will send them to one reader.
They will arrive in a box with all of this stuff as well.
Baking cups, more cutters, cupcake stencils, pretty sugar decorations and cute baking goods gift bags. Just leave a comment below by Monday December 13, 2011 11 PM ET. The contest is open to anyone anywhere. Martians too.

@ Sue.Thanks! as fo the spearmint oil, I would not use the aromatherapy version unless it says specifically on the label it's also for baking. I used a LorAnn candy oil which can be found online here: https://www.lorannoils.com/ The spearmint macarons really were delicious. I hope you enjoy them!

You always find the most amazing things! Thanks for the inspiration! One question though, I can't find spearmint flavouring, is the spearmint oil the same as that sold in 'aromatherapy' sections, and what do I look for? I really want to make the spearmint macaroons!

Wow! Just fabulous and fun and festive! What a giveaway and what cool holiday cookies (not to mention that I love Jolly Ranchers – from the days my dad would buy them for us…well, for himself actually. I'd just steal all the watermelon ones).

I'm glad this giveaway is open to Martians. I kept wondering when I'd be eligible. 😉

I've seen stained-glass cookies in magazines but have never tried it myself. Yours look so cool–especially with the different colors of dough!

I'm not entering the give-away. I've never seen a cutter as large as these ones! I love how you used the both Jolly Ranchers and Life-Savers to make the stained glass effect. Cookies are big and wonderful!
