I haven’t made brownies in what seems like a lifetime so I especially wanted to add something a little extra to them this time.
I just love allspice and always am a bit sad to relegate it to the back of the spice cabinet towards the end of winter.
It was time to have one last allspice fling before spring and what a good idea it was to add these to dark chocolate ganache. It added another layer of flavor that had people guessing what that extra something was in the brownies.
These were very rich so I cut them up into bites instead of full size brownies and recommend you do the same.
These were devoured at a dinner party a few weeks ago and although I cannot take credit for these great recipes, I am still patting myself on the back for that idea of an allspice infusion. Next time I will probably add some liqueur or expresso powder to the batter. Because you know I can’t just leave well enough alone.
For the double chocolate brownies I used Martha Stewart’s flawless recipe . Then for the ganache topping I used this chocolate ganache recipe from Joy of baking and mixed in 2 tablespoons of ground allspice.

Again with the 2 tablespoons! This time with allspice. You are one of the most daring bakers I know and I have to tell you, these brownies look amazing!
I adore allspice! These look totally delectable!
i refuse to move all spice to the back of my cabinet! I use it year round.
These look full of fudge-y goodness!
Those look incredible!
Oh wow those look like pure fudge!! Fabulous.
i don't think i've ever added a spice to ganache–it's a great idea in general, and picking all spice is inspired!!
Oh…these look so decadent. I love spices with chocolate and I'm very tempted to make a batch now. 😛 Good advise to cut them into bite size pieces. I like that with rich dessert like this. 🙂
Oh wow…..this is so tempting. Its such a treat to the eyes:)
