Homemade Fig Cinnamon Liqueur

Homemade liqueur makes a beautiful host or hostess gift and a lovely aperitif or after-dinner drink for your own guests. The fig and cinnamon flavors in this version are perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Eve/Day celebrations.

Serve this sweet fall-flavored drink with an appetizer cheese platter or as a shot with coffee after dinner.

The recipe takes 10 minutes to throw together but beware the mixture has to stand for 8 days. You need to shake the mixture occasionally to help dissolve the rock sugar.

After 8 days, strain the figs and cinnamon The recipe below yields about 1 cup so you might want to double or triple this recipe if you are planning on gifting it. The recipe calls for brown rock sugar which can be found in food specialty stores or online.

This liquor tastes like a fall/winter celebration in a glass.

Homemade Fig Cinnamon Liqueur

Ingredients

  • 8 oz fresh figs
  • 3/4 cup brown rock sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean powder
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1+1/2 cups vodka

Instructions

  1. Gently rinse the figs and pat them dry. Cut each into eight sections.

  2. Place the figs in a large clean jar.

  3. Add the rock sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon stick and fill with the vodka.

  4. Close the jar tightly and stow it for 8 days in a cool place.

  5. Shake the bottle daily until the rock candy has dissolved.

  6. Strain the liquid into a small (1 cup capacity) sterilized bottle.

  7. Close the bottle and store it in a cool, dark place.
