I am posting this Filet Steak with Baked Oranges recipe early in the holiday recipe game because it’s so flexible. By that I mean it works for several different upcoming holiday meals. This main course is perfect for the fall Jewish Holidays, Christmas Dinner, and New Year’s Eve. It even works as an alternative to a traditional Thanksgiving Turkey.

The real beauty of this Filet Steak With Baked Oranges is that, in addition to its fantastic flavor, it looks fancy on the table. However, it may read fancy, but it is not fussy to throw together. There are only a few ingredients to gather up and it takes a little over an hour to prepare.
Because there are few ingredients to buy, I suggest you invest in the highest quality filet steaks you can find. You need four steaks, about seven ounces each. Marinate them in orange juice and zest, olive oil, grated garlic seasoned with kosher salt and freshly ground pepper. Let the steaks chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.

Sauté red onion rings in olive oil and honey. Transfer to a casserole dish. Sear the steaks on both sides in the same pan and lay them on top of the onions in the casserole dish. Slice up two oranges into rounds. Add honey to the pan. Sauté the orange slices in the pan until slightly browned. Then tuck them into the casserole dish in between the steaks.

Bake this Filet Steak with Baked Oranges for about 15 minutes, depending on how you like your steak done. 15 minutes at 350 degrees in my oven came out medium-rare.
So, few ingredients, small cook and prep time, and maximum fanciness. A perfect holiday menu timesaver.
