Am I the only one who eats the crumbs off a NY style crumb cake or picks the streusel bits out of every dessert it covers?
Didn’t think so.
Like a streusel virus, those crumbs need to spread, to find their way into more recipes like this popcorn.
Sorry I said streusel virus but this is a gooey, chocolate, sweet crumbly snack sure to put you in a sugar coma.
Streusel Cherry Chocolate Popcorn
I made my own popcorn. You can use a microwave bag to save time. Any chocolate or melts can be substituted as well.
Ingredients:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup unpopped popcorn
- vegetable oil for coating pot
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup cherry chips
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate
- Extra butter for buttering popcorn
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Make the streusel:
- In a bowl mix together the sugar, flour and butter with a wooden spoon until it forms pea sized chunks.
- Transfer the mixture to a shallow baking dish and put it in the oven for 15 minutes.
- Take it out and let cool.
- Make the popcorn:
- Coat large pot with oil and place an un-popped kernel in the pot.
- Melt the butter for coating the popcorn.
- When the kernel pops, pour in the popcorn, cover the pot and shake it back and forth until the popping stops.
- Place popcorn in a large bowl and toss with melted butter.
- Spread the popcorn out on the baking sheet.
- Melt the cherry chips and chocolate together over a double boiler or in a microwave.
- Drizzle the mixture over the popcorn.
- Sprinkle the streusel over the popcorn/chocolate mix and mix loosely.
- When the chocolate is dry break up the popcorn, place in a bowl and serve.

I agree with The Vanilla Bean Baker – you always have such unique ideas! Why not combine two delicious treats?! I would definitely be buying this over every other popcorn if it were in a cinema!
Streusel and popcorn?! I must try it! We got rid of our microwave 2 years ago and learned how fun it is to make popcorn on the stove.
