Chocolate Tree Bark Candy with Royal Icing Flowers for Earth Day

by Lora Wiley-Lennartz

To celebrate Mother Earth here,  I recycled some leftover royal icing into flowers.

I used small round, star and leaf tips to create a few different styles, let them dry overnight and adhered them to a chocolate “bark” bar.

To make the chocolate bar, I meted some almond bark in a small loaf pan. Before it hardened completely I use a fork and swirled it over the candy to create the bark pattern.

The flowers took some time to make because they have to dry overnight. I just improvised the designs but if you are serious about making sugar roses, Sweet Sugarbelle has great tutorials on how to make roses here and here.

Other that that, these were a breeze to make. I used a grass tip to pipe the grass on the base of the bark and then sugar glued (with corn syrup an a small paintbrush) a garland of different flowers up to the top.

Briefly I thought it might be a good idea to paint  a hollow in the tree with black royal icing but it turned out to just look like a blob.

Happy Earth Day Everyone! Tread Lightly…

What a sweet idea for Earth Day. The bark is so pretty and it sounds delicious (almond is a favorite flavour of mine)
