So here’s a quickie cocktail just in time for your celebration tomorrow. The star of this Honey Ginger Pomegranate Cocktail is Bärenjäger, a German Honey liqueur. Mention Bärenjäger to most Germans I know and many of them start immediately licking their lips.
Dating back to 18th century Germany, Bärenjäger was originally used to lure bears out of their lairs by hunters. Hence the name which translates into “Bear Hunter”.
Made with a high concentration of all natural honey, luscious Bärenjäger honey liqueur has a deep sweet honey flavor. In its pure form, this liqueur needs no help. Bärenjäger tastes wonderful on its own. Drink it straight up or on the rocks. However, it adds something magical to mixed drinks like this Honey Ginger Pomegranate Cocktail.
This Honey Ginger Pomegranate Cocktail is made up of Bärenjäger, homemade ginger syrup, seltzer, and pomegranate juice. All the pretty holiday flavors. You can easily buy ginger syrup. However, I recommend making it yourself. It is so easy to do, you will never purchase it again. Boil fresh ginger with equal parts sugar and water. Then strain and cool the mixture. You’re done and it’s ready to use.
The Honey Ginger Pomegranate Cocktail recipe below is for one cocktail. However, you can easily multiply it for however many guests you are expecting. Multiply it by eight to make a batch cocktail.
Pomegranate seeds are called “arils”. I always buy a pomegranate when preparing holiday meals. If I don’t use the pomegranate in a recipe, I use the arils to decorate cheese and vegetable platters and to garnish dishes. They definitely look pretty at the bottom of the glass in this Honey Ginger Pomegranate Cocktail.
This is my concoction. However, you can add all-natural sweetness to any cocktail or non-alcoholic drink with Bärenjäger.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Lastly, to all of you who celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow here in the United States, I wish you a wonderful holiday. May you gobble until you wobble and don’t fight with your family over politics.
