The first thing I do, after clearing immigration in Germany is head to a newsstand to scoop up some German cooking magazines. I love to see what’s trending, what’s hot and what I can use for inspiration for new recipes. On my most recent Germany jaunt, several food magazines featured a version of this cucumber limeade.
I admit at first I thought it was a bit strange. However, after seeing a recipe for different versions of this drink a third time in as many magazines, I caved. I had to make some or at least experiment with it.
It’s hotter than hölle here in Germany. There is been a severe heat wave and everything on our property is brown. We normally do not ever need air conditioning here but now we have a portable one cranking out the cool air. I was a bit desperate for anything refreshing to drink which may have added to my desire to make this.
Whatever the reason, this frozen drink is a refreshing winner. An interesting alternative to lemonade or iced tea, it’s a bit fancy but so easy to make. When I throw parties in the USA I always try to make a delicious non- alcoholic drink for guests. For inspiration, I usually go into the herb garden. Spring water, citrus, simple syrup and some herbs usually round out whatever concoction I come up with. This cucumber limeade is a game changer. And of course, you can add gin or vodka for an alcoholic version. Next time I would add some fresh lemon balm to the mix.
