Rabbit?
False rabbit, also known as “Falscher Hase” in German cuisine, is a traditional dish that mimics the appearance of a roasted rabbit but is made from ground meat, typically beef or pork. The name “false rabbit” comes from its deceptive appearance, as it resembles a whole roasted rabbit when cooked, hence the term “false.”
False Rabbit Mini Loafs consists of seasoned ground meat, often mixed with breadcrumbs, onions, herbs, and spices. Then, it is shaped into a loaf resembling the body of a rabbit. Sometimes, hard-boiled eggs are placed within the meat mixture to simulate the appearance of rabbit innards. Use whatever herbs and spices you like.
Once assembled, the meat mixture is typically wrapped in bacon or thinly sliced pork fat. This adds flavor and moisture. It is then roasted or baked until golden brown and cooked through.
False rabbit has its roots in German culinary tradition particularly in rural regions where rabbit meat might have been less accessible or more expensive. It remains a popular dish for festive occasions, including Easter. Consequently, these False Rabbit Mini Loafs are a tasty and hearty addition to your Easter celebration.
