Let’s shake off these winter blues with tangy and refreshing Tangerine Vodka Martinis. We deserve it! Because, after the sparkly deliciousness of the holidays, January can be dull and depressing. Don’t get me started on Dry January. There is nothing wrong with people wanting to recalibrate their alcohol consumption. However, I believe in the idea of “everything in moderation including moderation. I practice “Dry-ish January”.
While I am reducing the number of drinks I consume, I am dreaming up or about cocktails. Delicious cocktails. Cocktails like this Tangerine Vodka Martini. In full disclosure, this cocktail all started when my Singing Chef friend brought me a tangerine shrub. She brought it as a hostess gift to my post-Thanksgiving appetizers/cocktails party. She suggested mixing martinis with it. My mind went wild with possibilities. This Tangerine Vodka Martinisrecipe is my first idea. “Intense citrus fruit and peel flavor and aroma with a sea brine finish.” is the tangerine mixer’s manufacturer’s description. It is surprisingly salty. This adds an unexpected, pleasant layer of flavor to these Tangerine Vodka Martinis. Sweet freshly squeezed tangerine juice and tangerine-flavored vodka round out the ingredients.
I served these at Christmas. The leftovers I popped into the freezer and drank
Tips for Making these Tangerine Vodka Martinis
- Squeeze and refrigerate the tangerine juice ahead of time to save time.
- I lazily did not rim the glasses. I suggest doing so with orange glitter sugar. Alternatively, use orange-flavored salt. Even more gorgeous is a mixture of the two.
- When mixing the cocktails, add the shrub a bit at a time. It is very salt so you do not want to overdo it. If you find it too salty, just add more sweet tangerine juice. This should balance it out nicely.
- Put the tangerine vodka in the freezer 1 day beforehand. Also, refrigerate the tangerine mixer.
- Make a multi-citrus cocktail by mixing up the flavors. For example, use the tangerine shrub, lemon-infused vodka, and freshly-squeezed pink grapefruit juice.
- Mix up these Tangerine Vodka Martinis and pop them in the freezer. Consequently, you can serve as an adult slushy during the summertime.
